Pitman United Methodist Church
Pitman, New Jersey
Hugh Lofting completed the glue-laminated (glulam) timber sanctuary roof truss system and decking for the sanctuary roof of the new 36,000-sf Pitman United Methodist Church in Pitman, N.J. Over 128 glulam timber pieces and 8,400 board feet of decking were assembled and installed above the sanctuary floor. The lattice-like ceiling was a challenge to execute but the results are beautiful. This project marked a shift from traditionally hand-cut timber framing to new strategic partnerships with glulam manufacturers and the development of in-house installation expertise for large-scale glulam timber-frame projects.
