Kamp Kaolin Named Groundbreaker Award Finalist September 30, 2016 (Edit) Kamp Kaolin At a ceremony September 29, 2016 at Philadelphia’s FMC Tower, the Delaware Valley Green Building Council (DVGBC) honored projects with the annual Groundbreaker Awards for demonstrated commitment to sustainability in the built environment. Six finalists were selected for their emphasis on innovation and leadership in green design and construction and commitment to sustainability. We are very proud that Kamp Kaolin was among the finalists. The Hugh Lofting team and the project homeowners were on hand for the ceremony. Kamp Kaolin is a 2,700-sf sustainable retirement home designed with Passive House principles, advanced home automation technology, integrated energy efficiency, and aging-in-place features. The secluded lakeside property takes its name from a former kaolin quarry on the site. “It is very satisfying to receive this kind of confirmation that we are on the right track regarding our building practices and sustainable building mission,” said Designer and Project Manager Steve Hessler. “We are honored to be included among the other impressive finalists this year and we congratulate all of the other teams.” Our clients Stan and Estelle invited us into their custom home adventure and were the perfect design-team clients. The ideas of retirement home and smart technology don’t often go together – especially not in the context of high-performing sustainable design. But Stan and Estelle aren’t your typical retirees. This wonderful high performance, aging-in-place home was a result of their vision. We knew after meeting with them early on that our team, passive house principles, and attention to high craft would be a perfect combination. It has been an absolute pleasure working with them and we are so proud to share this award with them. Click here to learn more about the 2016 Groundbreaker Awards and see all of the winners.
